Welcome to Eco Information
Eco is an internal programme of action to improve the environmental performance of the Council and reduce impact on the environment including climate change. It is a range of direct practical actions designed to put our own house in order, at the same time as we promote sustainable development in the community.
The work is being progressed on a number of fronts covering the use of resources, waste production, staff travel, purchasing, together with monitoring, training and legal compliance. Our current drive is to "consume less" which is being promoted to all 550 sites and 21,000 staff.
The environmental impacts of the Council are considerable with over £5 million spent on energy, £1.5 million on water use and a staff travel pattern around 10 million miles per year. The climate change levy is estimated to cost the authority an annual increase of £0.75 million on energy bills. Small changes in staff performance can have a big difference in environmental savings and cost savings.
