Our Purpose
The Council's Welfare Rights Service provides a specialist advice service offering confidential, impartial and independent advice on welfare benefits in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The building is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
Benefits advice is free and available to people who are facing social and economic difficulties due to low income, disability, illness or unemployment.
Our aim is to make a significant contribution to the well-being and quality of life of some of Cheshire’s most vulnerable citizens.
We operate a comprehensive casework monitoring system to ensure continuous development and improvement of our benefits advice service. The Welfare Rights Service has been awarded the Community Legal Service Quality Mark at Specialist level for benefits advice.
What we do |
- We provide specialist advice on welfare benefits over the telephone or by appointment.
- We provide representations and/or written submissions at Appeal Tribunal hearings and to the Office of Social Security Commissioners.
- We offer support to Social Services staff through training, benefits advice and by taking casework referrals.
- We work in partnership with voluntary sector advice agencies to identify and meet their welfare benefits training needs.
